University of Nairobi Student Arrested After Fatally Stabbing Roommate During Hostel Quarrel
The tragic incident unfolded at the Kikuyu Campus early Tuesday after a disagreement reportedly broke out over cleaning duties in a shared washroom.
Quarrel Turns Deadly
Witnesses said the exchange escalated within minutes, turning violent. The third-year victim was left with deep stab wounds. Despite being rushed to PCA Kikuyu Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Police later confirmed that the suspect, also a student at the institution, was arrested.
Police Confirm the Arrest
Omondi Ogola, a senior officer from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kikuyu, said detectives immediately took over the case.
“We received a report from the university’s security team that one student had stabbed another,” Ogola stated.
“The victim was rushed to PCA Kikuyu Hospital. Sadly, we later confirmed that the student had passed on,” he added.

Ogola explained that preliminary investigations point to stabbing as the cause of death.
“We suspect that death was caused by a stab injury. I can confirm that DCI officers have taken up this matter,” he said.
Suspect in Custody
According to police, quick coordination between detectives, the university security, and local residents helped them track down the suspect.
“Police, DCI, and community members worked together. We arrested the suspect and secured the murder weapon,” Ogola revealed.

The suspect was arraigned in court as detectives sought more time to conduct thorough investigations.
“We are seeking custodial orders so that we can further our investigations. The motive is yet to be fully established,” Ogola told the press.

Students at the Kikuyu Campus expressed shock and disbelief at the incident. Many described the victim as quiet and hardworking. The university administration is yet to issue an official statement, though sources revealed that counseling services would be offered to grieving students.
This tragedy adds to the growing concerns over rising cases of student conflicts in Kenyan universities. Parents and guardians are now calling for stricter conflict resolution mechanisms within campuses to prevent such deadly outcomes.
