Kasarani Residents Stage Protests After Murder of 19-Year-Old Girl
KASARANI, Nairobi – A wave of grief, fury, and heartbreak swept through Kasarani Estate on Friday, June 20, as angry residents took to the streets following the horrific murder of a 19-year-old girl.
Thick plumes of smoke filled the air. Chanting youth blocked roads, lit bonfires, and waved placards in protest, demanding swift justice for the slain girl.
“We will not rest until those who did this face justice,” shouted one of the protesters, tears welling in her eyes.
The teenage girl, reportedly fresh out of high school and waiting to join college, was discovered dead in her mother’s house. Locals believe unknown attackers assaulted her before ending her life.
“Her body was on the sofa,” said a shaken neighbor. “Blood was flowing from her neck and mouth. It was horrifying.”
As the news spread, hundreds of youths stormed the Sunton-Kasarani road. Business came to a standstill. Traders closed their shops, fearing the rising tension. Vehicles were turned back as the Kasarani-Roysambu road became impassable.
“We couldn’t operate today,” said a boda boda rider. “Even our customers were scared.”
Some residents watched silently from their balconies as chaos unfolded below. Meanwhile, protestors held high their placards with messages like “Justice for Our Sister” and “We Want Answers.”

Soon after, police officers arrived to contain the situation. The area Officer Commanding Station (OCS) briefly spoke to residents. However, the conversations yielded little.
“Police are only appearing now,” another protestor complained. “Where were they when she needed protection?”
Despite the show of force by law enforcement, residents remained unmoved. They promised to return to the streets daily until the murder is solved and justice delivered.
“We’ve seen cover-ups before,” said another demonstrator. “This time, we’ll not let go.”
This tragedy comes just a day after a similar protest rocked Thome Estate. There, residents also decried the mysterious murder of a young man. They claimed the police were trying to sweep the incident under the rug.
“We’re tired of burying our youth while the killers walk free,” said a protestor from Thome.
Back in Kasarani, fear mingled with rage as night fell. Parents held their children tighter. The air remained tense

Meanwhile, the police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing. But for the people of Kasarani, words are not enough.
“We need action, not statements,” one resident said flatly.
