“WHO Is Broken!” — Kennedy Jr Tells the World as US Pushes for Exit
A storm is brewing in the world of global health—and Kenya is caught in the middle.
On Tuesday, May 20, Robert F. Kennedy Jr, the United States Health and Human Services Secretary, made explosive remarks that could shift the balance of global health cooperation.
“We don’t have to stick with a broken system,” Kennedy declared.
“Let’s build new institutions that are transparent, efficient, and work for all of us.”
His message? The WHO is outdated, politically influenced, and no longer serves the health needs of the world effectively.
US Calls for WHO Exit — Again
This is not the first time the US has clashed with WHO.
Now, Kennedy is urging other nations to follow suit.
“Treat our withdrawal as a wake-up call,” he told WHO members.
According to him, many like-minded nations are already in talks to leave WHO and explore new health alliances.
WHO Attempts Damage Control
Interestingly, just before Kennedy’s video aired, WHO announced an agreement to improve pandemic response. However, Kennedy brushed off the effort as too little, too late.
“That’s just damage control. The system still doesn’t work,” he insisted.
His criticism reignited frustrations over WHO’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, which many saw as slow and ineffective.
Kenya Feels the Pressure
Back in Nairobi, alarm bells are ringing.

Leaving WHO could cripple essential services. But resisting the US could risk jeopardizing diplomatic ties and future support.
If America forms a rival global health agency, Kenya may be forced to choose—and the decision won’t be easy.

Analysts warn that either path could have serious consequences.
For now, Kenya is watching closely.
