A key focus of Trump’s plan is mass deportation. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency has already identified over 1.4 million undocumented migrants for removal. Among them, 1,282 Kenyans now face deportation.
Kenya Among Top East African Countries with Illegal Migrants
ICE reports show that Kenya ranks among the East African nations with the highest number of undocumented migrants. Other affected countries include Ethiopia (1,713), Somalia (4,090), and Nigeria (3,690).
Many Kenyans in the U.S. now fear arrest and deportation.
“I have lived here for ten years. I work hard, pay taxes, and contribute to society. Sending us back without consideration is unfair,” lamented a Kenyan immigrant facing removal.

Currently, 15 countries refuse deportation agreements, while 11 others risk being labeled non-compliant.
Impact on Kenya’s Economy
Mass deportations could hurt Kenya’s economy. The Central Bank of Kenya reports that the U.S. is the largest source of remittances. In 2024 alone, Kenyans abroad sent home KSh 640 billion. A reduction in remittances would significantly impact many families and businesses.

“Deportation means leaving behind everything we built. It will affect not just us but our families back home,” said another undocumented Kenyan.
