Moses Kuria to Travel to Ethiopia with Dem Wa Facebook, Jaro Soja to Protect Raila’s AUC Votes
Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has announced his plans to travel to Ethiopia to secure Raila Odinga’s votes in the upcoming African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson elections. Raila is among three high-profile candidates vying for this influential position, and Kuria’s involvement has sparked both praise and controversy online.
Assembling the “Team Baba”
Kuria revealed his strategy in a post that quickly went viral. He declared his commitment to safeguarding Raila’s votes during the voting period, scheduled for February 10–15 in Addis Ababa.
“From February 10 to D-Day on 15th February, I will be camping in Addis Ababa to set up the official tallying center,” Kuria wrote. “There are some people I cannot trust to protect Baba’s votes. They have failed in the past.”
To achieve this, he announced plans to sponsor five loyal Raila supporters to accompany him. So far, he has identified two: his close friend Jaro Soja and social media personality Dem Wa Facebook. Kuria is still seeking three more individuals to complete his “Team Baba.”

Social Media Reacts
Kuria’s declaration ignited widespread reactions online, with many Kenyans sharing mixed opinions.
@itskipronoh said:
“Moses Kuria, who managed to get 5,000 votes in the Kiambu gubernatorial election in 2022, has promised to protect Raila’s votes in an election where the presidents of Africa are voting. What a joker!”
Another user, @urgirlwanjiru, quipped,
“After all that, Baba Raila Odinga will congratulate Mahamoud Youssouf instead.”
Others offered their support. @casper_kudoyi said,
“Count me in, mheshimiwa.” Similarly, @Ron_asimi added, “As a student, I wouldn’t mind joining you.”
Raila’s Confidence in Victory
While Kuria rallies support, Raila himself has expressed confidence in a win. The veteran politician said he is prepared to accept any outcome, even if it means defeat. “I am not afraid of losing. If I don’t win, I’ll move on to other engagements,” he said.
Raila faces stiff competition from Djibouti’s Mahamoud Youssouf and Madagascar’s Richard Randriamandrato. However, his strong performance in the recent AU candidates’ debate has bolstered his chances.
Will Team Baba Make a Difference?
Kuria’s campaign to ensure Raila’s victory reflects the determination of Raila’s supporters to leave nothing to chance. Whether the plan succeeds or not, the AUC elections are shaping up to be a highly anticipated event with widespread implications for the continent.
