Ruto Declares War on Corrupt MPs: “We’ll Arrest, Not Shame Them”
President Reads Riot Act
On Monday, during a joint parliamentary group meeting between Kenya Kwanza Alliance and ODM, Ruto expressed his fury. He directly accused MPs and Senators of betraying the trust of Kenyans.
“They are collecting money in the name of Parliament, and sometimes that money never gets to Parliament. Instead, it ends up in the pockets of a few individuals. We are not going to shame them; we are going to apprehend them,” Ruto declared.
The President insisted he regularly receives raw intelligence on the matter.
Bribery at Committee Level
According to Ruto, the rot is deeply entrenched at committee level. He revealed shocking details of how legislators have been demanding bribes to influence outcomes.
“I am a consumer of raw intelligence. Do you, for example, know that a few members of the House here received up to Ksh10 million to pass the Anti-Money Laundering Bill? Do you know that? Did you get the money?” the President asked pointedly.
Ruto further revealed that one senator allegedly pocketed Ksh150 million to sway a matter before the House. However, he stopped short of naming the legislator.
Anger Over Growing Impunity
The Head of State expressed deep frustration with the rising levels of impunity in Parliament.
“There are people who are destroying the credibility of Parliament. Some of the time, that money never gets to Parliament: it only gets to a few people,” he lamented.
He warned lawmakers that time for excuses was over. According to him, the government will act decisively against corruption, regardless of rank or political affiliation.
War Against Graft Intensifies
Ruto said the culture of bribery must end immediately. He made it clear that arrests and prosecutions, not cover-ups, will restore credibility.
“The time has come to decisively confront and eradicate this vice. No one will be spared,” he affirmed.
This is not the first time the President has raised alarm. Just last week, while addressing the National Devolution Conference on August 13, he blasted MPs for demanding bribes and called for accountability.

Now, with the President promising arrests, lawmakers face heightened scrutiny. Kenyans, long frustrated by corruption scandals, will be watching closely to see if the bold words turn into real action.
