Mudavadi Issues Tough Warning on Corruption at Mumias Sugar Revival

Mumias, Kenya — Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has issued a stern warning to the new Mumias Sugar Company management and local leaders. He cautioned against corruption, stating it poses a severe threat to the company’s revival and the aspirations of farmers, employees, and the community.

Corruption’s Impact on Revival Efforts

Speaking during a sugarcane farmer bonus rollout on January 20, Mudavadi underscored the dangers of corruption derailing the company’s progress. “Corruption threatens the dreams of employees, cane farmers, and the community. Let’s keep it out,” he said.

Mudavadi expressed optimism about the mill’s revival, describing its potential to attract investors, benefit farmers, and boost the national economy. “Revamping Mumias Sugar will enhance our GDP through increased sugar production and revenue collection,” he stated.

Farmers’ Resilience Praised

Mudavadi praised the patience and resilience of sugarcane farmers, who endured years of hardship following the mill’s collapse. He assured them that their efforts were not in vain, highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting the sugar industry.

“The government is committed to creating policies that empower investors and sugarcane farmers. Together, we will revive this vital industry,” Mudavadi said.

Government Interventions

The Prime CS outlined government initiatives aimed at supporting farmers, including the subsidized fertilizer program. He emphasized how these measures would greatly benefit sugarcane growers and ensure sustainable growth in the agricultural sector.

“Today marks a historic moment as we roll out the first-ever bonuses for sugarcane farmers,” he said. Mudavadi thanked President William Ruto for his determination to restore Mumias Sugar’s legacy.

“The iconic roar of Mumias Sugar Company’s machines is back, producing the natural sweetness that belongs in our homes,” Mudavadi added.

A Call for Unity

Mudavadi urged Western Kenya residents to rally behind the government’s policies, stressing unity as the key to progress. He viewed the bonus rollout as a symbol of hope and a fresh start for the agricultural sector.

“We need to be strategic as a people. Let’s work with President Ruto to move forward as a united Kenya,” Mudavadi said.

A Vision for the Future

With optimism and caution, Mudavadi called on all stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability in the sugar mill’s operations. He emphasized that corruption must not derail the efforts to restore Mumias Sugar to its former glory.
