President William Ruto has announced that German football giants Bayern Munich and Dutch club Ajax will headline the opening of the Raila Odinga Talanta Stadium in Nairobi on January 5, 2027.

Speaking during a special address on Wednesday, October 28, Ruto said the two clubs would meet in a historic match to officially open the stadium.

“Ladies and gentlemen, come January 2027, we will open this stadium with a historic match of international stadium FC Bayern and Ajax,” Ruto stated.

The President indicated that the private sector would finance the international friendly, although further details on the sponsors and the event’s budget were not immediately provided.

Bayern Munich, Ajax Set for Nairobi Football Showdown

Bayern Munich compete in Germany’s Bundesliga, while Ajax are among the most established clubs in the Dutch Eredivisie.
