Traffic Disruption as Bodaboda Block Ngong Road Near Talanta Stadium After Accident
The incident reportedly occurred after a lorry struck and killed a boda boda rider in an alleged hit-and-run accident. The circumstances surrounding the crash were not immediately clear.
Following the incident, hundreds of boda boda operators reportedly gathered at the scene, blocking motorists from accessing the affected section of the busy Nairobi road.
The protest quickly disrupted traffic, with vehicles unable to pass through the barricaded section as riders demanded attention over the death of their colleague.

Motorists Stranded as Riders Block Ngong Road
Tensions reportedly escalated when some riders began throwing stones at vehicles attempting to pass through the affected area.
One motorist described the situation as difficult, saying drivers had limited options while the road remained blocked.
“Right now, our hands are tied. Anyone who attempts to pass risks their car being stoned and damaged,” the motorist stated.
By around 3pm, the section had reportedly become difficult for motorists to access, with traffic delays continuing as tensions mounted.
Some drivers said the situation had persisted for more than an hour, with riders reportedly adding more barricades and making it increasingly difficult for vehicles to move.
Police Respond as Tensions Rise
Police officers reportedly arrived at the scene as the protest continued and used tear gas in an attempt to disperse the crowd.

However, the situation remained tense, with barricades continuing to obstruct traffic and motorists struggling to navigate the affected section.
The reported use of tear gas highlighted the challenge facing officers as they sought to restore order and reopen the road.
Authorities are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the reported crash and address any offences committed during the demonstrations.
Motorists using Ngong Road were advised to exercise caution, anticipate significant delays and consider alternative routes while police responded to the incident.
Ngong Road Has Witnessed Previous Protests
In October, Greenpeace Africa and forest defenders reportedly delivered a petition containing more than 60,000 signatures over concerns about government-led projects affecting protected forest areas, including Ngong Forest.
In May, transport operators staged protests over high fuel prices and police harassment, with demonstrations disrupting movement along parts of Ngong Road.
While the causes of these protests have differed, the latest incident has once again highlighted how demonstrations along major roads can affect businesses, public transport and daily commuting.
Questions Remain Over Fatal Accident
The death of the boda boda rider remains at the centre of Monday’s protest, with the reported hit-and-run incident prompting anger among fellow operators.

Further details are expected as authorities investigate the fatal crash and work to restore normal traffic along Ngong Road.
