Helicopter Carrying Five People Crashes at Kericho Golf Club
The helicopter, registered as 5Y-FSK, reportedly lost altitude shortly after take-off before crashing onto a grassy field. The aircraft had not gained significant height when the incident occurred, according to Kericho County Police Commander Kivindu Kilonzo.
The Kenya Forest Service confirmed that the helicopter belonged to the agency and that all five people on board escaped without injuries.

KFS Helicopter Crashes Shortly After Take-Off
According to Kilonzo, the aircraft lost altitude moments after leaving the ground and crashed before gaining substantial height.
Emergency responders and security personnel arrived at the scene as authorities began assessing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The damage raised questions about what caused the helicopter to lose altitude during take-off. However, the precise cause of the crash had not been established by the time of publication.
The aircraft’s registration markings identified it as 5Y-FSK, consistent with reports that it belonged to the Kenya Forest Service.
Five Occupants Escape Without Injuries
The most significant development following the incident was confirmation that all five occupants survived without reported injuries.
The Kenya Forest Service confirmed the safety of everyone on board, easing concerns following reports of the crash.
Police Commander Kivindu Kilonzo said further details would be released as investigations progressed.
Investigators are expected to establish the sequence of events leading to the crash, including the helicopter’s condition and the circumstances surrounding its attempted take-off.
No immediate information was provided on whether the aircraft had experienced a mechanical problem or whether other factors contributed to the incident.
The cause of the crash therefore remained undetermined, pending the findings of the relevant aviation investigators.

Incident Raises Questions Over Aviation Safety
On August 19, a helicopter crashed near Mount Ololokwe in Samburu County, killing all seven occupants aboard.
The Air Accident Investigation Department was involved in examining that incident to establish the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.
Although both incidents involved helicopters, there was no immediate evidence linking their causes. Each accident requires a separate investigation based on the aircraft involved and the conditions surrounding the incident.
Investigations Expected to Establish Cause
The Kericho incident has highlighted the importance of determining why an aircraft lost altitude during take-off, even when those on board escape without injuries.
For now, the immediate priority remains establishing what caused the Kenya Forest Service helicopter to crash at Kericho Golf Club.

Further information from the authorities is expected as the investigation progresses.
