Ruto Vows to Discipline MP Salasya After Fiercely Lecturing Him: “Nitamnyorosha Kidogo Ashike Laini”
Mumias, Kenya — The launch of sugarcane farmer bonuses in Mumias turned dramatic when Mumias East MP Peter Salasya openly criticized President William Ruto’s approach to stakeholder engagement. Salasya, addressing the crowd on Monday, January 20, questioned the source of funds for the bonuses and the lack of transparency from the Mumias Sugar Company’s management.
Salasya raised concerns over whether the funds came from the company or taxpayers, asserting that such allocations were absent from the national budget. He accused President Ruto of sidelining stakeholders in critical projects such as education reforms, the Social Health Authority (SHA), and affordable housing initiatives.
“Take me as your advisor and pay me because, Mr. President, your people do not tell you the truth,” Salasya said. “They lie about SHA, affordable housing, and the new education model. I know you have the interest of the people at heart, but cartels in your government prevent you from knowing the truth.”
The MP further criticized heavy payroll deductions, claiming they have left Kenyans frustrated. However, he expressed support for Ruto in future elections, stating his wish for the president to succeed.
Ruto Fires Back
President Ruto responded swiftly, dismissing Salasya’s comments as populist and self-serving. The president defended his administration’s policies, emphasizing their transformative nature over short-term praise.
“I’m not looking for praise; I’m looking for ways to change this country because it’s long overdue,” Ruto said. “The problem isn’t the plan but the lack of leaders with courage and capacity to implement it.”
Ruto accused Salasya of hypocrisy, pointing out that he was elected under the Azimio coalition, which also supported affordable housing projects.
“Salasya, you have a job, but you don’t want others to be employed. Let’s not mislead Kenyans,” Ruto added. “Sometimes you defend the people well, but other times you overstep—I’ll straighten you out so you stay in line.”
President Vows to Stay the Course
Ruto dismissed his critics, especially on social media, warning of a political showdown in the next election cycle.

“All this noise on social media will come to an end. Those making noise online have work ahead if they think they can compete with me,” Ruto said.
Conclusion
The fiery exchange between Salasya and Ruto highlights the tension surrounding key national projects. As both leaders continue to assert their positions, Kenyans are left watching to see how these developments will shape the nation’s future.
