Murkomen Sparks Political Buzz With Ruto-Kalonzo Unity Hint Ahead of 2027 Elections
A subtle remark from Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has ignited fresh speculation about a possible political reunion between President William Ruto and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka. Speaking during a Sunday service at AIC Milimani, Murkomen hinted at unity between the two leaders, stirring emotions and political debate across the country.
“Bring Us Together,” Murkomen Urges Kalonzo
While addressing the congregation, Murkomen referenced both leaders’ ties to the AIC church. He used the shared faith as a bridge to suggest reconciliation.
“William Ruto will be running in the elections and is from the AIC church,” Murkomen said. “And the person leading the opposition is from the AIC church. So if you have the capacity, bring us together. So we can work as one,” he added.
His words, though carefully chosen, sent a clear message: Kalonzo should consider joining the Kenya Kwanza camp.
Kalonzo Holds Firm, Rejects Ruto’s Government
Despite Murkomen’s olive branch, Kalonzo has repeatedly rejected any alliance with Ruto. On September 7, he warned fellow opposition leaders against abandoning their shared mission.
“I will never collaborate with a regime that has our children’s blood on its hands,” Kalonzo declared. “We must stay focused and united,” he added.
Kalonzo has previously described Ruto’s administration as “blood-based,” making any reunion appear unlikely—at least for now.
Gachagua’s Camp Accuses Ruto of Poaching
Meanwhile, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s camp fired back at Kenya Kwanza. Through the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), they accused Ruto’s allies of desperation.
“That William Ruto is poaching Kalonzo day and night using men of cloth, local politicians, medicine men and rainmakers,” read part of the DCP statement. “It should be remembered that Ruto defeated Raila by just 200,000 votes,” they added.
The statement painted Ruto’s camp as politically rattled and scrambling to weaken the opposition.
Opposition Still Divided Over Flagbearer
As the 2027 elections draw closer, the United Opposition remains undecided on its presidential candidate. Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya confirmed that a special committee has narrowed the list to four contenders.
“We’re close to a decision. The people deserve clarity,” Natembeya said.
