Just the day before, on Thursday, nine others died after a collision between a cargo train and a Kenya Pipeline Company bus at the Morendat Junction in Naivasha.
The bus, which had been ferrying passengers, had reportedly attempted to cross the railway line in front of the oncoming train, which failed to stop fast enough despite the engineer’s effort.
Sifuna Breaks Silence, Declares Loyalty to Kalonzo, Blasts Ruto’s Regime
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has firmly dismissed claims that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has abandoned the Azimio La Umoja coalition.
Speaking in Kitui County on Saturday, Sifuna insisted that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka remains his coalition principal.
“Kalonzo Is My Leader”
Sifuna stressed that ODM and Wiper are still united under Azimio despite public speculation.
“People fail to recognise that ODM and Wiper parties are still under one coalition called Azimio. I recognise Kalonzo Musyoka as my leader under the Azimio coalition. I also recognise Wiper party members as fellow coalition members,” Sifuna asserted.
He urged for stronger cohesion between the two parties to effectively counter the current regime.

Sharp Attack on Ruto’s Government
The ODM Secretary-General launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto, accusing him of undermining devolution.
“You know the biggest enemy of devolution is the national government led by President William Ruto. The biggest problem in this country is at the State House,” he claimed.
Sifuna alleged that governors are struggling to run counties because of budget constraints imposed by the national government.
“My Goal Is a Better President”
He made it clear that his political focus is not personal ambition but governance change.
“My biggest goal now is not to become a governor; my goal is to ensure we get a better president who believes in devolution,” Sifuna reiterated.
A Public Contradiction
Sifuna’s fiery criticism comes just a day after ODM leader Raila Odinga expressed support for the Kenya Kwanza administration.
On Friday, during the burial of women’s rights champion Phoebe Asiyo, Raila defended his cooperation with Ruto’s government, saying it would last beyond the 2027 elections.
“When the right time comes, we will face Kenyans and tell them why we did this and where we want to go,” Raila declared.
He added confidently:
“I am confident we will move beyond 2027, and nobody should try to threaten us.”
Political Tensions Rise
The contrasting positions between Sifuna and Raila have fueled fresh debate within Azimio. While Raila is pursuing collaboration with the current regime, Sifuna appears determined to lead the opposition charge from within.

As political temperatures rise, questions remain on whether Azimio can maintain unity—or whether these differing visions will split the coalition ahead of 2027.
