Raila Urges Sifuna to Tone Down but Affirms His Voice for ODM

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has advised Secretary General Edwin Sifuna to tone down his harsh attacks against the broad-based government.

Speaking at the burial of slain Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo in Oyugis, Raila balanced his message with both support and caution.

“The spokesman of the party is usually the secretary general, so when Mr. Sifuna speaks, he speaks on behalf of the party,” Raila said.
“But Mr. Sifuna, sometimes tone down a bit.”

Raila Backs Diverse Opinions in ODM

Raila acknowledged that ODM members hold differing opinions. However, he stressed the need for unity and a clear stand on issues.

“As members of ODM, we must remain steadfast and edify ODM as a strong political party,” he urged.
“Yes, in a political party, there are always differences in opinions on some issues, but the party must have a firm stand on the issues. People must talk, but ultimately there is an official position that will be articulated by the party.”

Sifuna’s Harsh Criticism

Lately, Sifuna has fiercely criticized the broad-based government led by Raila and President Ruto. He argues the structure lacks legitimacy. Moreover, Sifuna insists ODM as a party is not part of the government. Instead, he claims ODM leaders who joined the government did so personally, not as party representatives.

Mbadi Pleads for Calm

At the same event, Treasury CS John Mbadi urged Sifuna to stop targeting him in public attacks. Mbadi reminded Sifuna they belong to the same political family.

“While I am in government, trying to push the party’s agenda, I expect total support from the party, including from you, Sifuna,” Mbadi appealed.
“My brother Sifuna, please, I am a member of your party. If I fail, there is no way in 2027 you will convince anyone that ODM can run a government.”

Raila Praises ODM Leaders in Government

Raila did not shy away from praising ODM leaders serving in the Kenya Kwanza government. He applauded their work across ministries and assured them of the party’s full support.

Justice for Charles Ong’ondo

Shifting his tone, Raila called for urgent investigations into MP Charles Ong’ondo’s brutal murder.

“We demand a speedy investigation and arrest of the masterminds of the plot that led to his shooting,” Raila declared.

This event revealed not only the tensions within ODM but also the party’s deep pain over the loss of one of their own.
