Confusion as Raila Odinga Hints at Taking on William Ruto in 2027: “ODM Itakuwa Kwa Uwanja”
Though his ODM party recently signed an MoU with Ruto’s UDA, Raila now says ODM will field its own presidential candidate.
This surprise announcement came during a Saturday rally in Mombasa, leaving supporters both excited and confused.
“ODM Itakuwa Kwa Uwanja” – Raila Declares
Raila firmly told the crowd, “I did not enter into this wedding with the state to betray Kenyans. Kenya is bigger and more important than any individual.”
He stressed that the deal with Ruto wasn’t a political marriage, but a temporary arrangement meant to stabilize the country.
“Kenyans must unite and work together,” he said. “But during electioneering, ODM will also contest.”
MoU Was for Peace, Not Politics
Raila defended the controversial agreement with Ruto, clarifying its intent. He insisted it was not about joining Kenya Kwanza, but rather a move to bring peace after deadly anti-government protests.
“ODM is not cooperating with the government to betray Kenyans,” he emphasized. “The MoU is to foster peace and create a conducive atmosphere for development until the election in 2027.”
Once that time comes, however, Raila was clear: “ODM will field its presidential candidate.”
Raila: Give Ruto Time to Deliver
Speaking earlier in Machakos, Raila also criticized the “Ruto Must Go” movement. He urged Kenyans to let the president work and to save their political energy for the ballot in 2027.
He explained that constant protests and early succession politics will derail development.
“We can’t grow the economy when leaders are constantly fighting. Wait until 2027 and vote if you want change,” he advised.
