Trans Nzoia Youths Threaten to Dump Raila After ODM Snubs Caleb Amisi for Key Seat
Tension erupted in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, as angry ODM supporters protested against the party’s leadership choices. On Thursday, March 13, youths took to the streets after Saboti MP Caleb Amisi was denied the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
Business activities came to a halt as demonstrators chanted slogans demanding justice for Amisi. The party instead appointed Butere MP Tindi Mwale as the PAC chair, a decision that infuriated Amisi’s supporters.
Why Are Trans Nzoia Youths Furious?
The protesting youths expressed deep frustration. They argued that Amisi has worked tirelessly to strengthen ODM’s presence in Trans Nzoia. Despite his loyalty, the party failed to reward him with a leadership role.
They accused ODM of sidelining their region, warning of possible political consequences.
“I suspect ODM is playing with our minds. If Raila Odinga does not want us in government, then ODM should leave Trans Nzoia,” one protester declared.
Another added, “Amisi has done a lot for the party, yet he is ignored. We are saying No Amisi, No ODM!”
The demonstration sent a strong message to the party, with some supporters threatening to shift allegiance if Amisi’s position was not reconsidered.

Amisi Reacts: “I Was Shocked”
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Caleb Amisi distanced himself from the protests, saying they were spontaneous. He denied organizing the demonstrations, expressing surprise at the overwhelming support.
“Wenyewe tu, not even organized. Nimestuka ata mimi by the love of the youth,” Amisi said.
His remarks hinted at a growing wave of dissatisfaction among ODM supporters in Trans Nzoia.
ODM’s Troubles Extend to Kisii
The political storm in Trans Nzoia is not an isolated case. In Kisii, ODM is also facing internal discontent.
Nyaribari Masaba MP Daniel Manduku recently hinted that the Gusii community might abandon Raila Odinga ahead of the 2027 General Election. Speaking on Citizen TV, Manduku accused Odinga of neglecting the Kisii people despite their unwavering support.
“Our region, a traditional ODM stronghold, has not benefited from Raila’s alliance with Kenya Kwanza. Our support in 2027 is not guaranteed,” Manduku warned.
His statement mirrors the frustrations in Trans Nzoia, signaling a deeper crisis within ODM’s strongholds.
What’s Next for ODM?
The growing dissatisfaction in Trans Nzoia and Kisii raises serious questions about ODM’s future. Will the party address these grievances, or will Raila risk losing key support bases ahead of 2027?
As frustrations boil over, the coming months will be critical in determining ODM’s political fate.
