“I urge Kenyans to turn up in large numbers to join leaders, led by President William Ruto, in sending off Chebukati, whose legacy will continue to inspire generations,” Wetang’ula stated.

Chebukati’s Legacy and Influence

Wetang’ula praised Chebukati’s leadership at IEBC, noting his commitment to upholding the law during electoral processes. He credited Chebukati for earning international respect, as other nations often invited him to share insights on managing electoral bodies.

“The country mourns a leader who upheld respect and dignity in his duties. His ability to manage IEBC in strict accordance with the law earned admiration globally,” Wetang’ula noted.

Visit to Chebukati’s Family

Wetang’ula recently visited Chebukati’s rural home in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, where he extended his condolences to his widow, Mary Wanyonyi, and the entire family. He urged Kenyans to support the grieving family through prayers and unity.

“I ask all Kenyans to remember Chebukati’s family in prayers during this difficult time,” he said.

Calls for National Unity

The Speaker emphasized the importance of unity during national mourning. He described Chebukati as a man of integrity who served Kenya with dedication and called on leaders and citizens to honour his memory by embracing peace and respect for institutions.

As the nation prepares to lay Chebukati to rest, Wetang’ula’s appeal highlights the significance of his contributions to Kenya’s democracy and electoral integrity.
