Murkomen Demands Gachagua Record Statement Over Explosive Terrorism Claims

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has ordered former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to record a statement immediately upon his return to Kenya.

The move follows Gachagua’s controversial remarks in the US, where he linked top government officials to alleged terrorism plots.

“He Must Explain”

Speaking during the Keiyo South Economic Empowerment Program on Saturday, Murkomen condemned Gachagua’s statements as reckless and damaging.

“He thinks that he is going to parade issues of terrorism in America to get votes,” Murkomen said.

The CS stressed that Gachagua must provide details to back his claims.

“He has said he has information and knows someone meeting with Al-Shabaab. As soon as he lands in Kenya, he must record a statement to tell us exactly which meetings he is having with terrorists,” Murkomen stated.

Accusations Against the President

Gachagua recently accused President William Ruto of meeting Al-Shabaab leaders during a visit to Mandera County. The allegations, made while Gachagua is on a two-month US tour, have sparked outrage in government circles.

Murkomen accused the former DP of tarnishing Kenya’s image abroad.

“How did such a person ever get a chance to become the Deputy President of Kenya? It is just unbelievable,” he said. “We must carry ourselves with the level of responsibility deserved when holding public office.”

Kindiki Backs Murkomen

At the same event, current Deputy President Kithure Kindiki echoed Murkomen’s stance.

“We therefore want to ask the relevant authorities to make sure that the people who claim to have information on terrorists and criminals are held accountable and record their statements so that they can assist in investigations,” Kindiki said.

Political Reactions

The backlash against Gachagua is growing. Mandera Senator Ali Roba also demanded action, urging the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to apprehend the former DP over his remarks.

Roba dismissed the claims as a “desperate attempt to mislead the public for cheap political mileage.”

Diaspora Tour in the Spotlight

Gachagua has been in the US since July 9 for what he described as a planned two-month outreach tour. The trip, meant to engage Kenyans in the diaspora and foreign stakeholders, has now been overshadowed by his explosive terrorism allegations

With calls for him to face questioning intensifying, all eyes are now on his return date — and whether he will stand by his claims or face the legal heat.
