ODM leader Raila Odinga addresses the public during the laying of the foundation stone for the Maganda Early Childhood Development Centre in Jomvu, Mombasa County, on June 24, 2025.
Speaking passionately during a church service in Karachuonyo, Raila called out sections of the media for distorting his earlier comments.
“The media is all the time prone to misinterpreting what I say,” Raila said. “I’ve said that Sifuna has a democratic right to a personal opinion as the Secretary General.”

“The agreement has expired. It’s no longer being followed,” Sifuna had boldly declared.
His statement sent shockwaves across the country, especially within the ODM camp. Many interpreted it as a sign of growing cracks and disunity in the once-formidable opposition party.
But Raila was quick to clarify and calm the storm.
“So what Sifuna said is a personal opinion. ODM’s opinion will come as a result of discussions within party organs,” he explained.

“I said we should sit down as a party and discuss this in the proper organ and come up with a resolution,” he emphasized. “It is not fair to the people of Kenya when our statements are misinterpreted.”
