John Maina: Autopsy Shows Priest Found Dead Weeks after Hosting Gachagua, Died from Gunshot Wounds
The beloved priest, who had served faithfully for years, died from multiple gunshot wounds, a postmortem has revealed.
“The body is in bad shape, it was badly mutilated,” a detective who witnessed the postmortem told the media.
The autopsy, conducted by government pathologist Titus Ngulungu on Monday, May 19, was done at Pope Benedict Catholic Hospital mortuary. He was joined by close relatives, the Nyahururu Diocese Vicar General Fr Timothy Maina, and ten other priests.
Shockingly, one bullet pierced through the priest’s skull, causing severe damage to his head. Other bullets were found lodged in different parts of his body.
Church Silence Raises Eyebrows
Despite the horrific findings, Ngulungu declined to address the media.
“I’ve been instructed by the Church not to discuss the report,” he said.
This silence has deeply upset the late priest’s relatives. They are now accusing the Church of failing to be transparent and proactive in seeking justice for one of their own.

Murder Plot Carefully Executed
Detectives believe the killers trailed Fr. Maina from Nyahururu before striking with precision.
His lifeless body was discovered on Thursday, May 15, dumped at Kikopey along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway, about 50 kilometres from his parish, Igwamiti Catholic Church.
Strangely, his Subaru Forester, believed to have been used to move his body, was missing.
“The killer wanted him dead before leaving the scene,” one officer confirmed.
Investigators also believe the murder occurred elsewhere and that the highway location was only a dumping site.
Just Weeks Earlier, He Hosted Gachagua
Shockingly, just three weeks before his death, Fr. Maina had hosted former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other dignitaries during a church fundraiser at St. Louis Catholic Parish.
The event celebrated the parish’s 25th anniversary and aimed to raise funds for a parish van.
During that powerful sermon, he issued a bold message to Kenya’s politicians:
“Lead with humility, honesty, and a sincere concern for the welfare of Kenyans,” he said.
Now, his death raises painful questions. Was he a marked man? Had he offended powerful people?
Search for Justice Ongoing
The DCI detectives on the case remain determined.

“Our team is working diligently to resolve this matter,” a DCI officer stated.
“We’re committed to securing justice for the victim.”
