Shockwaves in UDA: Mithika Linturi Resigns, Citing Graft, Oppression, and Broken Promises— Just a Day After Rigathi Gachagua’s Exit
Nairobi, Kenya – Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has officially resigned from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), deepening the cracks within the ruling party. His shocking announcement came barely 24 hours after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also ditched the party.
In a blistering statement on Wednesday, May 14, Linturi condemned the party’s leadership, accusing it of betraying the people of Kenya.
“I do not wish, nor would I ever wish that any Kenyan would belong to a party that is repugnant of its philosophy,” he declared.
Why He Walked Away: Accusations Fly
Linturi didn’t hold back. He cited graft, forced disappearances, police brutality, and oppression of youth as reasons for his exit.
“It’s a party that tolerates graft, forced disappearances, and brutal execution of our young people,” he wrote.
“A party that overtaxes Kenyans, disrespects women, children, the Constitution, and the rule of law.”
He claimed UDA has abandoned its mission, ignored its values, and turned its back on the people.
“The party has no respect for the people,” Linturi added. “It has failed in its mandate and lost its moral authority.”
From Political Rise to Resignation
Linturi joined UDA in February 2022, hoping to clinch the Meru gubernatorial seat. Though he lost to Kawira Mwangaza, he secured a Cabinet post soon after.

Now, with this resignation, he has fully severed ties with the party.
“It is in this realisation that I, Mithika Linturi, a patriotic Kenyan, tender my resignation from UDA with immediate effect,” he concluded.
A Party in Free Fall?
Linturi’s move follows closely after Rigathi Gachagua’s resignation on Tuesday, May 13. Gachagua accused UDA of wasting a golden opportunity to transform Kenya.
“The party has exhausted and wasted a Kenyan moment to take off economically, socially and politically,” Gachagua wrote.
He is expected to launch a new party on Thursday, May 15, sparking talk of a major political realignment.
What Lies Ahead?
With two high-profile exits in two days, UDA faces serious internal turmoil. Will more leaders defect? Could a new political movement be on the horizon?

Kenyans now wait with bated breath.
