UDA Rejects Gachagua’s Resignation, Says His Membership Ended After Impeachment
Just hours after Gachagua announced he was quitting UDA, the party hit back with a scathing statement.
They insisted that his ouster as deputy party leader in 2024 automatically ended his membership.
“The ruling party, United Democratic Alliance (UDA), officially removed one, Rigathi Gachagua, as its Deputy Party Leader, which automatically revoked his membership,” the party said.
UDA Says Exit Letter Means Nothing
The party branded Gachagua’s move as political theatre.
“Today’s long paragraphs and ‘exit’ from the party amount to mere theatrics, hence, inconsequential!“
UDA added that Gachagua had no legal ground to resign from a party he no longer belonged to.
“The custodian of political parties’ membership is the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), and that’s where the resignation ought to have been directed. It is null and void!”
Back on January 22, UDA officially informed the ORPP of the leadership changes. They named Deputy President Kithure Kindiki as the new deputy party leader. The decision followed a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on November 11, 2024.
Gachagua Fires Back With Stinging Accusations
In his resignation letter, Gachagua didn’t hold back. He said he was leaving because UDA had failed Kenyans.
“By a copy of this letter, you are notified that I have officially resigned from the UDA Party with immediate effect,” he wrote.
He accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of betraying its promises.

“The party’s manifesto—unity, justice, prosperity—has been replaced with a retrogressive philosophy,” he claimed.
Moreover, Gachagua described the government’s five development pillars—Agriculture, MSMEs, Housing, Healthcare, and the Digital Economy—as hollow and corrupt.
“They’ve become centres of crime with no tangible gains,” he declared.
A Deep Rift in the Ruling Coalition
This fresh clash highlights deepening cracks within the ruling coalition. While UDA stands firm, Gachagua’s exit message signals growing unrest among former allies.
