Gunmen Spray Bullets on Homabay Deputy Governor’s Car in Suspected Assassination Attempt
The shocking incident happened between 9:15 pm and 9:20 pm, moments after the DG had returned home from a farm visit.
Although the vehicle was riddled with bullets, the deputy governor was not inside. Instead, his security team was in the car.
Fortunately, no lives were lost. A brief gunfight ensued, forcing the attackers to flee.
Chilling Warnings Hours Before Attack
Speaking to Ramogi FM on Monday, Magwanga confirmed he had received credible intelligence about a plot to eliminate him.
“When I was coming to my home, I got information that I was being trailed,” he revealed.
“I had already informed my people to open the gate in anticipation,” he said.
As soon as he arrived, his security team noticed suspicious activity near the gate. They opened fire immediately when the attackers advanced.
“They opened fire on the vehicle with my security, thinking that I was in the car,” he explained.
Assassins Failed but Fear Lingers
Although shaken, the deputy governor called for peace.
“I would like to urge the rest of Homa Bay residents to maintain peace,” he pleaded.
Magwanga acknowledged that he had been receiving death threats for some time, but until now, he had not taken them seriously.
“This attempt has made me realize my life is in serious danger,” he said, his voice heavy with emotion.
Political Bloodshed in Kasipul?
The attack comes barely days after Kasipul MP Charles Were was gunned down in Nairobi.
On April 30, Were was shot five times after reportedly being trailed from Parliament. He died on the spot.
Though he had taken security measures—like switching cars—he was ambushed in traffic. Shockingly, his driver and bodyguard were arrested as key suspects.

Police believe political disruptors could be behind both attacks.
Now, the big question remains—who is hunting leaders from Kasipul?
