DCI Chief Mohamed Amin Warns Gachagua Over Assassination Claims: “This Is Not a Stage for Dramas”
However, DCI boss Mohamed Amin isn’t buying the theatrics.
While addressing the press on Saturday, April 19, Amin slammed Gachagua over his recent claims of assassination plots, calling them exaggerated and dramatic.
“Security Is Not a Game”
“If the former Deputy President has an issue in matters concerning the threat to his life and property,” Amin stated, “he should go and report to the nearest police station and stop engaging in media theatrics.”
Amin insisted that Gachagua, like every other Kenyan, is entitled to protection. But he also reminded the public that due process must always come first.
“Any report, just like that of other citizens, would be investigated to its logical conclusion,” he said firmly. “I associate myself fully with the sentiments of the Inspector General and encourage Gachagua to report the matter.
Gachagua Cries Foul
The strong response came just four days after Gachagua raised alarm over what he termed as a series of assassination plots. In a letter dated April 15 and addressed to Inspector General Douglas Kanja, the former Deputy President claimed his life, family, and property were all under threat.
Even more concerning, he accused the police chief of deliberately weakening his security.
He wrote, “You are well aware that Security Agencies have been trailing me with marked and unmarked vehicles.” Gachagua referenced a chilling December 19, 2024 incident where “a NIS officer with a fake car number plate trailed me for over 150 km in Makueni.”
“You Are Perpetuating Crime”
In the same letter, Gachagua didn’t hold back. He accused the IG of violating the Constitution.

“As you are aware,” he said, “you have a constitutional responsibility and duty to protect the life and property of every Kenyan… However, in this case, Mr. Kanja, you are perpetuating crime and violence.
Amin: Let the Law Work
Despite the heavy accusations, Amin remains unmoved. He insisted that reporting formally is the only path to justice.
“We take every threat seriously,” he assured, “but we cannot act on press statements and TV interviews.”
