Oscar Sudi Defends Church Donations, Blasts Critics: “You Didn’t Attend Sunday School”

Oscar Sudi has stirred fresh controversy. This time, he’s gone after Kenyans who criticize politicians for donating money in churches.

With fiery conviction, the Kapseret MP said giving in church is not a crime—but a virtue taught early in life.

“Those who are against us giving in church should forgive us because we have no choice but to do it,” Sudi declared.

Speaking to congregants over the weekend, the outspoken MP didn’t hold back. He suggested that critics missed basic Christian teachings.

“When you see those opposing giving in church, it is because their parents didn’t take them to Sunday schools. I urge all parents to take their children to Sunday school, and they will understand the journey to heaven,” he said.

Sudi’s remarks echo those of President William Ruto, who has also faced backlash over hefty church donations.

Despite public uproar, Ruto remains unmoved. He insists that giving is part of his culture and faith.

In March, the president shocked Kenyans when he donated KSh 20 million to Jesus Winner Ministry in Roysambu.

And that wasn’t all. Ruto promised to rally friends to raise another KSh 100 million toward a futuristic KSh 1 billion worship center.

The announcement didn’t sit well with many Kenyans. Social media erupted. Some even threatened to “raid the church and grab the monies.”

To them, the donations seemed suspicious. Many argued the money could be proceeds of corruption.

A vocal group even sent a demand letter to the church’s pastor, Edward Mwai, urging him to reject the donation.

While a portion of the public demands accountability, leaders like Sudi remain unshaken.

To them, generosity in God’s house is sacred, not political.

Despite pressure, Ruto and his allies say they will continue giving. Their message is clear: you don’t need to explain giving—especially in church.

As the controversy rages, Sudi’s takeaway was simple but stinging:

“Take your children to Sunday school. They’ll understand what giving means—and what it means to serve God.”
