William Ruto Defends Church Donations as He Pledges Millions to Jesus Winner Ministry

Nairobi – President William Ruto has once again criticized the Catholic Church leadership for rejecting his KSh 5 million donation. Speaking at Jesus Winner Ministry in Roysambu on Sunday, March 2, Ruto questioned the decision, insisting that donations are for God, not individuals.

“I am blamed many times because of giving, but when we donate in church, we do so for God, not the congregation. I have read the Bible but have not seen any verse saying a bishop can return a donation given to God,” Ruto stated.

Despite the criticism, Ruto donated KSh 20 million to Jesus Winner Ministry and pledged another KSh 100 million for the church’s construction. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting churches and silencing his critics.

“We will build this church to shame the enemies of the nation of Kenya,” he declared.

The president was accompanied by several leaders, including Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

Why the Catholic Church Rejected Ruto’s Donation

Ruto’s generous church donations have sparked heated debates. Previously, Nairobi Archdiocese Bishop Philip Anyolo rejected his KSh 5.8 million contribution. The donation included KSh 600,000 for the choir, KSh 2 million for the construction of the Father’s House, and a promise of KSh 3 million and a parish bus.

The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) issued a strong statement questioning the source of funds from politicians. They directed all Catholic churches to reject cash donations from politicians.

Mixed Reactions From Churches

While the Catholic Church declined Ruto’s donation, some churches continue to accept his contributions. Jesus Winner Ministry welcomed his generosity and appreciated the funds for their construction project.

Oscar Sudi Criticizes Church Leaders

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi strongly opposed churches rejecting Ruto’s donations. Speaking at AIC Pioneer Church in Eldoret on Sunday, December 8, Sudi accused bishops of insincerity.

“Churches have many needs, so why reject donations? Some bishops want to return the president’s donation, yet the same churches still require funds,” he argued.

Sudi, a close Ruto ally, stated that he has donated to churches for years and will not stop. According to him, church donations support religious programs and do not influence church decisions.
