Kalonzo Musyoka Warns Wiper Members After Heckling at Linda Mwananchi Event
Kalonzo said the incident exposed the need for Wiper leaders and supporters to work together as opposition leaders negotiate a possible joint presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.
He made the remarks on Saturday, October 31, during a house-warming ceremony hosted by Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu. The former vice president criticised Wiper members who failed to accompany him to the Linda Mwananchi event, saying their limited presence weakened his political support.

Kalonzo Calls for Stronger Wiper Team
Addressing party members, Kalonzo urged them to demonstrate solidarity during public engagements as he continues seeking support across the country.
“Move as a team; when you are doing that, I move to the rest of the country. Yesterday was a very big show when we went to the Linda Mwananchi headquarters launch. When I went there, I looked at how many Wiper Party members were there, and I was shocked,” Kalonzo said.
He singled out the Democratic Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, as an example of the organisation and visibility he expected from Wiper supporters.
“When Rigathi Gachagua turned up, you saw his team, all of them branded properly, that is what we should emulate. Let me tell you, you will never be given anything on a silver platter,” he added.
Kalonzo’s remarks came amid growing discussions among opposition leaders over who should represent the coalition against President William Ruto in the 2027 presidential election.
Why Kalonzo Was Heckled at Linda Mwananchi Event
The uproar followed Kalonzo’s response to remarks by Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa, who had announced Sifuna as the opposition’s presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.
Kalonzo appeared to reject the suggestion that the opposition candidate could be settled through an individual announcement, insisting that consultations involving other presidential hopefuls were still necessary.
“We have to wait for November 13, when we will talk with other presidential candidates. Right now he is just a party leader,” Kalonzo said.
His comments prompted supporters in the crowd to chant Sifuna’s name, interrupting his speech temporarily.
Kalonzo Maintains 2027 Presidential Ambitions
Despite the heckling, Kalonzo has maintained his commitment to the 2027 presidential race while continuing to advocate for opposition unity.

The Wiper leader has previously indicated that he is willing to participate in negotiations aimed at identifying a single candidate to challenge Ruto.
His latest remarks also suggest that he expects Wiper members to play a more visible role in the ongoing political engagements, particularly as rival factions seek to build support for their preferred candidates.
The November 13 discussions could provide another opportunity for opposition leaders to address their differences and explore a common position.
However, the process of selecting a joint candidate remains dependent on consultations among the parties and presidential hopefuls involved.
