Wiper Rejects State House Meeting Claims, Insists Kalonzo Remains Firmly in United Opposition
The party, through Secretary General Senator Shakila Abdalla, issued a strongly worded statement on Thursday, July 30, insisting that Kalonzo has neither abandoned the opposition nor initiated talks aimed at joining President Ruto’s political camp.
According to the party, the reports are fabricated and intended to weaken confidence in the opposition coalition at a time when political activity across the country is gathering momentum.
“The propaganda machine is in overdrive. Today, Kalonzo is at the State House. Tomorrow, it will be another fabricated story. The truth remains unchanged. The Wiper Patriotic Front and H.E. Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka remain firmly committed to the United Alternative Government,” the statement read.

The rumours have emerged at a time when Kalonzo’s political strategy has attracted increasing public debate. While other opposition leaders have recently intensified nationwide political rallies and grassroots mobilisation, Kalonzo has largely maintained a lower public profile, prompting criticism from some sections of the public who question whether his approach is sufficient to mount a strong challenge against the ruling administration.
The party instead highlighted Kalonzo’s decades-long public service record, describing him as one of Kenya’s most experienced statesmen whose contribution spans diplomacy, constitutional reforms, conflict resolution and national cohesion.
“His decades of public service have been marked by integrity, patriotism, diplomacy and an unwavering commitment to constitutionalism, peace and democratic governance,” Wiper stated.
At the same time, Wiper reaffirmed that Kalonzo remains one of the principal leaders of the United Alternative Government, the opposition coalition seeking to field a single presidential candidate against President William Ruto in the 2027 elections.
“The strength of this alliance lies not in individual ambition but in the collective determination to provide an alternative founded on constitutionalism, accountability, economic justice and national unity,” the statement added.

The controversy has also been fuelled by the circulation of photographs and videos purporting to show Kalonzo and President Ruto meeting privately at State House. However, the footage widely shared online is from an earlier official event during the presentation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, where Kalonzo served as co-chair of the bipartisan process.
For now, the party insists its leader remains committed to the coalition’s objective of presenting a united challenge against President Ruto in the next General Election, urging supporters to ignore what it describes as politically motivated propaganda circulating across social media platforms.
