Wiper Denies Secret Dealings With Ruto Ahead of 2027 Elections
In a statement dated September 28, 2026, Wiper spokesperson Ndegwa Njiru said the party had no agreement, understanding or plans to work with the President ahead of the election. The statement came amid renewed speculation over the direction of opposition politics as parties continue discussions on a possible joint presidential candidate.
“The Wiper Patriotic Front, under the steadfast leadership of H.E. Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, issues this clarification to put to rest any mischievous speculation regarding its position on President William Ruto.”
Wiper then issued a direct denial of reports suggesting that the former Vice President could enter into a political agreement with the President.

“Let it be stated without ambiguity; the Wiper Patriotic Front has no dealings, no understanding, and no intention of working with Ruto. Our path is independent, principled and irreversible. We shall only meet with Mr Ruto at the ballot on August 10, 2027.”
Gachagua’s Remarks Trigger Fresh Debate
Speaking to Kenyans in Texas on Sunday, September 27, Gachagua said the opposition would eventually settle on one presidential candidate.
“One single presidential candidate will be announced. One person will go away; that one person will go away on his own.”

Wiper subsequently used its statement to clarify its position and distance Kalonzo from claims of a possible arrangement with the President.
Wiper’s Earlier Denials
This is not the first time Wiper has rejected reports of a possible Ruto-Kalonzo political deal.
“For the record, my party leader has not had any such meeting with the President. Let me also clarify for the benefit of the country that the two have not had any talks whatsoever about working together in the next General Election.”
Wambua also disputed a video that had circulated online, saying it showed an earlier meeting involving Kalonzo and Ruto in March 2024 when the National Dialogue Committee presented its report.
Kalonzo has also previously said that he would only have a political conversation with Ruto after the 2027 presidential election, while calling for the contest to be conducted democratically.
Opposition Coalition Talks Continue
Wiper’s latest statement comes as opposition parties continue consultations over the 2027 presidential contest.
The opposition has yet to announce a single presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
