CS Mutua Asks Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka To Quit Politics Over Failing To Bring Development In Ukambani
Speaking during a Kamba community resource mobilization drive in Kilifi County on Saturday, November 29, 2025, Mutua accused Kalonzo of presiding over “politics of poverty” despite holding senior government positions for more than 40 years. The CS, who also leads the Maendeleo Chap Chap party, claimed Kalonzo had failed to improve basic infrastructure and services in his home area of Tseikuru and across Ukambani.

“From Mwingi to Kalonzo’s home in Tseikuru, he has been in government for 40 years, yet he has not built a road even at his home; he has not installed electricity at his home; there is no water at his home,” Mutua charged.
Call for Political Change
Mutua declared that the time had come for new leadership in Ukambani, vowing to spearhead a political revolution to unseat Kalonzo as the region’s kingpin.
“We want to give Kalonzo Musyoka a notice that now we are launching a revolution. Kalonzo must leave the space for us to drive development politics in Ukambani,” he said.
The CS, a key figure in President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration, has increasingly positioned himself as a challenger to Kalonzo’s dominance in the region. His remarks reflect growing tensions between Kenya Kwanza and Wiper, particularly after recent electoral contests.
Wiper’s Dominance
Despite Mutua’s criticism, Kalonzo’s Wiper Party remains the dominant force in Ukambani politics. The party currently boasts 14 Members of Parliament, three governors, and more than 60 elected Members of County Assembly (MCAs) across Machakos, Kitui, and Makueni counties.

The party’s strength was reaffirmed in the November 27, 2025, Mumbuni North Ward by-election, where Wiper candidate Antony Kisoi secured victory with 3,849 votes. He defeated Maendeleo Chap Chap’s Harrison Wambua, who garnered 2,766 votes. The win underscored Wiper’s continued grassroots appeal and highlighted the uphill battle Mutua faces in challenging Kalonzo’s influence.
Political Context
Kalonzo Musyoka, a former Vice President and long-serving Cabinet minister, has been a fixture in Kenyan politics since the 1980s. His supporters argue that he has provided consistent leadership and representation for the Kamba community, while critics like Mutua accuse him of failing to translate political power into tangible development.
Mutua’s remarks come at a time when Kenya Kwanza is seeking to expand its influence in traditionally opposition-leaning regions. Analysts note that the Ukambani bloc, with its sizeable voting population, remains a critical battleground ahead of future national elections.
Conclusion
CS Alfred Mutua’s call for Kalonzo Musyoka to quit politics marks a new escalation in the rivalry between Kenya Kwanza and Wiper in Ukambani. While Mutua accuses Kalonzo of presiding over decades of underdevelopment, Wiper’s continued electoral victories suggest that Kalonzo’s political grip on the region remains firm.

As the contest for Ukambani’s political future intensifies, residents will be watching closely to see whether Mutua’s promised “revolution” can translate into meaningful shifts in the region’s leadership and development agenda.
