Speaking to Ukambani vernacular stations on Wednesday, February 26, Gachagua acknowledged that the impeachment did not weaken his ability to mobilize people. Instead, it strengthened his appeal among Kenyans.
“The impeachment did not diminish my capacity to mobilize the people of Kenya into politics. In fact, it has made me more popular than I was before. I thank the president for chasing me because my influence is now at an all-time high,” he stated.

“The impeachment only took away the power and privileges that come with office. But politically, I am stronger, and my voice commands attention at the national level,” he asserted.

In Kenya, impeached officials are barred from holding elective or appointive positions. However, Gachagua hinted at using the courts to stall the case and remain politically active. He referenced the case of Kiambu Senator Karungo Thangwa, who ran for office in 2022 despite facing impeachment.
“There is no one who can bar you from vying because you have an incomplete case in court. The law says the right to vie for political office is absolute. As long as you have not exhausted the available mechanisms for remedy, nobody can stop you from running,” he explained.
The former deputy president remains determined to challenge President William Ruto. He believes Ruto’s political standing is rapidly declining and that he cannot recover his lost public support.
As political temperatures rise, all eyes remain on Gachagua’s next move. Will he successfully overturn his impeachment, or will he rise in influence outside the corridors of power?
