“I Will Fix Nairobi!”—Moses Kuria Declares War on Sakaja’s Seat, Seeks Ruto’s Blessing for 2027

In a fiery and emotional declaration, former Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has announced his intention to run for Nairobi Governor in 2027. Kuria made the announcement on Monday morning through a heartfelt social media post addressed directly to President William Ruto.

“Dear Ruto, You Spoke to My Heart”—Kuria’s Bold Letter

Kuria didn’t hold back. He praised Ruto’s recent speech and revealed how it inspired him to take action.

“Dear President William Ruto. Today you spoke to my heart,” Kuria wrote. “Like Baba Raila Amolo Odinga has told me countless times, Nairobi cannot continue to be the city of filth, garbage and incompetence,” he added.

He pledged to restore Nairobi’s lost glory.

“I have heard your cry. That is why I will offer myself to be the governor of the great county of Nairobi in 2027. I will fix Nairobi,” Kuria declared.

“We’re Cleaning This City”—Ruto’s Vision Sparks Ambition

Kuria’s announcement came just a day after Ruto outlined a bold plan to transform Nairobi. Speaking during the 70th anniversary of AIC Ziwani, Ruto promised a cleaner, modern, and globally competitive capital.

“The move will target all our estates,” Ruto said. “We are in the final stages of signing an agreement with the private sector on how we are going to clean our city,” he added. “It cannot continue the way it is,” he emphasized.

Kuria now wants to lead that transformation from City Hall.

“I’m Ready to Lead”—Kuria Joins 2027 Race

Kuria’s entry into the Nairobi gubernatorial race sets the stage for a heated contest. He joins Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and former PS Irungu Nyakera, both eyeing the seat currently held by Governor Johnson Sakaja.

“I will not sit and watch Nairobi rot,” Kuria said privately to allies. “This city deserves better,” he added.

His campaign echoes the controversial Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) initiative launched in 2020, which aimed to fix city services.

“From Kiambu to Nairobi”—Kuria’s Political Comeback

After losing the Kiambu gubernatorial race in 2022, Kuria was appointed Trade CS, then later served as Ruto’s Senior Economic Advisor. He resigned in July, fueling speculation about his next move.

Now, with his sights set on Nairobi, Kuria is ready to challenge Sakaja and reshape the capital.
