Moses Kuria Resigns From President’s Senior Advisor Role After 10 Months: “Proud Of My Work”

Former Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has officially stepped down from President William Ruto’s administration. He made the announcement via X on the evening of Tuesday, July 8.

Kuria, who served as the senior advisor in the Council of Economic Advisors, explained that his decision was driven by a desire to pursue personal interests.

“This evening I have met my boss and my friend President William Ruto. The President has graciously accepted my decision to resign from government,” he wrote.

A Journey Through Ruto’s Cabinet

Kuria’s political journey under President Ruto has been eventful and packed with high-profile roles. First, he served as the Cabinet Secretary for Trade and Industry from September 2022 to October 2023. Later, he was transferred to the Public Service docket, serving for nine months between October 2023 and July 2024.

“I thank President Ruto for having given me an opportunity to serve as Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry for 11 months, Public Service, Delivery and Performance Management for 9 months,” Kuria posted.

After being removed from the Cabinet during the July 2024 reshuffle, he made a comeback just a month later. On August 23, 2024, Ruto appointed him as a senior advisor in the Council of Economic Advisors.

Kuria has now exited that advisory role after 11 months, bringing to an end a dynamic chapter of service.

Taking Pride In BETA Agenda

While stepping down, Kuria expressed pride in contributing to Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), a platform he helped shape during the 2022 campaigns.

“As I move on to pursue personal interests, I am proud of the work the President and I did to implement the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which I designed together with the President as our 2022 Electoral Platform. Long Live Kenya,” Kuria said.

A Bold Voice In Government

In his final months, Kuria didn’t shy away from controversy. He openly condemned corruption during teacher and prison officer recruitments. He criticized officials soliciting bribes from job seekers.

Kuria also raised concerns about the spike in abductions, defying silence from many in power.

Once a two-term MP for Gatundu South, Kuria also ran unsuccessfully for Kiambu Governor in 2022. Though now stepping back, his influence in Kenya’s politics remains evident.
