Gachagua Backs Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya Amid Rising Political Tensions
Nairobi—Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly supported Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya amid his escalating row with Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah. Gachagua’s bold remarks have reignited debates on political accountability and abductions in Kenya.
Gachagua to Natembeya: “Stay Strong”
Speaking on Sunday, January 5, Gachagua praised Natembeya for his dedication to serving Trans Nzoia residents. He urged the governor to remain undeterred by criticism.
“My dear brother Governor Natembeya, please do not let the court poets and masters of platitude distract you from delivering to the people of Trans Nzoia County. These court jesters are on a misguided mission of providing comic relief to their master,” Gachagua said.
“Do not be cowed from speaking out on behalf of Kenyans when necessary. The rants and tirades against you prove you are making an impact by speaking truth to power,” he added.

Natembeya on Abductions: “Ruto Must Act”
On the same day, Natembeya distanced himself from any affiliation with Gachagua. However, he strongly criticized President Ruto’s government for its handling of abductions in the country.
“There is something deeply wrong with this country,” Natembeya said. “The president cannot evade responsibility for addressing abductions. Protecting Kenyans and their property is squarely his duty.”
He urged Ruto to ensure that no Kenyan is abducted or harmed for expressing opinions online.
Ichung’wah Fires Back
The feud began at the funeral of Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s mother when Natembeya criticized Ichung’wah’s earlier claims that Kenyans were orchestrating their own abductions.
Ichung’wah responded angrily, accusing Natembeya of making baseless accusations. His heated remarks sparked tension, prompting Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli to intervene.
As the nation grapples with these issues, the spotlight remains on President Ruto’s administration to address the growing concerns over security and political integrity.
