Kimani Ichung’wah Reveals Role in Ruto-Uhuru Reconciliation Efforts
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has opened up about his push for reconciliation between President William Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta. Speaking on December 11, Ichung’wah revealed he encouraged Ruto to reach out to Kenyatta for the nation’s unity.
“I had a candid talk with the president,” Ichung’wah stated. “I urged him to engage with our former president. I saw his confidence and supported it.”

Ichung’wah reflected on his past relationship with Kenyatta, which began during Uhuru’s first term. As a first-time MP, he worked closely with Kenyatta under Ruto’s mentorship. Their relationship, however, took a downturn after 2018.
“President Kenyatta was my leader for 10 years,” he said. “I worked under him and formed a friendship with Ruto. After 2018, we broke ranks for reasons I won’t discuss here.”
Ichung’wah emphasized that despite their differences, his dedication to national service remained unwavering.
Why Ichung’wah Believes in Unity
He explained how his perspective on leadership has evolved over his decade-long political career. He now has a broader understanding of what the country needs.
“Today, I hold a constitutional office under Article 108,” he noted. “I’m no longer a first-time MP. My view of the nation is deeper now.”
He stressed the importance of fostering dialogue among leaders to move the country forward. Additionally, he revealed his significant role in facilitating talks between Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
The Path Forward
Kimani Ichung’wah’s appeal for reconciliation demonstrates the need to mend political rifts. His efforts underline the importance of dialogue in achieving national stability. As Kenya grapples with its challenges, leaders like Ichung’wah champion collaboration over division.
