Rigathi Gachagua Questions Kindiki’s Leadership, Urges Leaders to Prioritize Kenyans
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has openly criticized his successor, Kithure Kindiki, for failing to advocate for ordinary Kenyans. Speaking during a church service, Gachagua claimed that Kindiki’s position limits his ability to challenge decisions within the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“The one who was given my seat can’t speak because he is the president’s employee,” Gachagua said. “There is nothing he can do. They say what the president says.”
Why Doubt Kindiki?
He argued that, unlike elected leaders, Kindiki’s appointment by President William Ruto makes him obligated to follow orders, even when public interest is at stake. Gachagua questioned whether such leadership can truly represent citizens’ needs.
Gachagua also expressed disappointment with lawmakers who approved the controversial Finance Bill 2024, despite strong opposition from Kenyans. He revealed that he stood alone in the Cabinet, opposing the bill after listening to citizens’ concerns during protests.

“I told the president that Kenyans want nothing to do with the Finance Bill 2024. I pleaded with him not to push Kenyans, as they would cause us trouble,” he said. However, he noted that Ruto disagreed, arguing that leadership requires doing what is right rather than what is popular.
The former deputy president urged the Kenya Kwanza government to reconnect with the people who elected them. He emphasized the importance of keeping promises made during campaigns and listening to public concerns.
“I want to ask our government: we were elected by the people, so let us listen to them,” Gachagua added.
His remarks have sparked debate about internal divisions within the Kenya Kwanza administration. Many Kenyans have applauded Gachagua for speaking out, while others question whether his comments signal deeper issues in leadership.
