Tragedy in Kwale: 12 Feared Dead After Tourist Plane Crashes in Stormy Weather

A peaceful morning in Kwale turned into a nightmare when a light aircraft carrying 12 people crashed shortly after takeoff. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) confirmed the devastating accident, which occurred at 5:30 a.m. on Monday, October 27.

“The Plane Crashed at 0530Z” — KCAA Confirms Fatal Incident

In a somber statement, KCAA revealed the aircraft, registration number 5Y-CCA, was en route from Diani to Kichwa Tembo.

“Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) wishes to confirm that an aircraft registration number 5Y-CCA, on its way from Diani to Kichwa Tembo, crashed at 0530Z,” the statement read.

The plane was reportedly carrying tourists. All 12 passengers are feared dead.

“Flames and Debris Everywhere” — Scene of Horror Unfolds

Footage shared online showed the aircraft engulfed in flames. Debris lay scattered across the dense forest of Kwale Tsimba.

“The aircraft had 12 persons on board. Government agencies are already on site to establish the cause of the accident and its impact,” KCAA added.

First responders rushed to the scene, battling thick vegetation and unstable weather to conduct rescue operations.

“Moments After Takeoff” — Police Describe Crash Site

Kwale police commander Abdillahi Alio confirmed the crash happened moments after the plane left Diani.

“The crash occurred in Kwale Tsimba, an area known for its dense forest cover and thickets,” Alio said.

The location made rescue efforts difficult, but teams persisted despite the challenges.

“We Warned of Storms” — Kenya Met Had Issued Alerts

Just two days before the crash, the Kenya Meteorological Department warned coastal residents of incoming storms. Tropical storm Chenge was moving slowly across the Indian Ocean.

“Chenge was located 500 kilometres north of Madagascar as of Sunday, October 26,” the alert stated. “It was moving westward at about 11 kilometres per hour.”

The storm was expected to bring strong winds, high waves, and heavy rain to Kenya and Tanzania.

“Why Was the Plane Allowed to Fly?” — Public Demands Answers

The weather in Diani that morning was marked by rain, thunder, and high winds. Many are now questioning why the plane was cleared for takeoff.

“This tragedy could have been avoided. Why did they fly in such weather?” a local resident asked.

“We need accountability. Lives were lost,” another added.

As investigations begin, families of the victims are left grieving and demanding justice.

“We Will Find the Cause” — Authorities Launch Probe

Government agencies have launched a full investigation. Experts will analyze flight data, weather conditions, and pilot decisions.
