Simba Arati Urges President Ruto to Rejoin ODM and Lead in 2027

Kisii Governor Simba Arati stirred political debate on Monday, October 20, during Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kisii County. In a bold and emotional appeal, Arati called on President William Ruto to return to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), the party he helped found.

“You Were a Founding Member” – Arati’s Open Invitation

While addressing thousands gathered at the event, Arati referenced Ruto’s recent remarks praising ODM’s legacy and unity.

“The President yesterday said he is going to ensure that ODM remains the party it is,” Arati said. “I want to urge him today, Mheshimiwa Ruto, you were a founding member of ODM,” he continued. “How I wish that you would come back to your former party.”

The crowd erupted in cheers as Arati made the unexpected call. He went further, suggesting that if Ruto rejoined ODM, he would automatically become the party’s presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election.

“If you came back to ODM, then we would have you as our flag bearer,” Arati declared. “If you came back, we would fulfil the promise Baba had a vision for.”

“Raila Was Our Guiding Light” – Honoring a Legacy

Arati paid tribute to Raila Odinga, describing him as a visionary who shaped Kenya’s political landscape.

“Raila was our guiding light. He helped define Kenya’s direction,” Arati said.

He vowed to protect Raila’s legacy and ensure ODM remains a dominant force in national politics.

“We Will Not Remain in Opposition” – ODM’s Future Plans

Arati echoed statements made during Raila’s burial, where ODM leaders promised to remain united and prepare for the 2027 elections.

“We will not remain in opposition. We will field a candidate,” Arati affirmed.

His remarks come amid internal debates within ODM about its future leadership and direction.

“I’m Ready to Face Crocodiles” – Arati’s Defiant Stand

Known for his fiery rhetoric, Arati ended his speech with a metaphor that captured his resolve.

“I’m ready to face crocodiles. I won’t back down,” he said.

His comments are expected to spark intense discussions within ODM, especially as the party navigates leadership changes after Raila’s passing.

“ODM Is Bigger Than One Person” – Unity Amid Uncertainty

During Raila’s burial, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna stressed party unity.

“ODM is bigger than one person. We will stay united,” Sifuna said.

However, subtle differences in vision among leaders continue to surface, making Arati’s proposal even more provocative.
