Winnie Odinga Subtly Appeals to President Ruto for New Role While Eulogising Her Father

In an emotional yet powerful speech at her father’s burial in Bondo, Siaya County, Winnie Odinga hinted at a surprising political turn. The youngest daughter of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga subtly expressed her willingness to work with President William Ruto’s administration, describing it as a continuation of her father’s legacy.

Addressing a deeply moved audience, Winnie said, “Your Excellency, our people appreciate your honouring my father. Thank you for standing with us.”
The crowd cheered warmly as she added, “You should also know, in case you are wondering, I am ready to return home.”

Her words instantly sparked mixed interpretations across the nation. Many viewed her statement as a symbolic olive branch to President Ruto, signaling openness to collaboration after years of political rivalry between the Odinga and Ruto camps.

A Nation Listens as Winnie Extends an Olive Branch

As thousands gathered to pay their last respects to Raila Odinga — Kenya’s iconic statesman and democracy champion — Winnie’s statement carried both emotion and strategic undertones. Her tone reflected gratitude, reconciliation, and hope for unity beyond political boundaries.

She praised President Ruto’s government for standing with the Odinga family during their time of grief, stating that the administration had handled her father’s burial with dignity and respect. Her words resonated with the crowd, igniting murmurs of curiosity and admiration in equal measure.

Political analysts were quick to note that Winnie’s comments could mark the beginning of a new chapter in Kenya’s political landscape — one shaped by dialogue, inclusivity, and national healing.

Family Tributes Reveal Raila’s Resilient Journey

During the solemn event, Ruth Odinga, Raila’s sister, delivered a heartfelt tribute that painted a vivid picture of Raila’s turbulent political journey. Fighting back tears, Ruth recalled the days her brother suffered persecution under former President Daniel arap Moi’s regime.

She revealed, “Raila became a refugee in Norway, staying with me. I am saying this to show you that this was a strong man; the family has suffered. Mama Ida has suffered because imagine all those years living without your husband.”

The crowd listened in silence, reflecting on Raila’s decades-long struggle for democracy and justice. His resilience and selflessness, Ruth said, were traits that inspired generations across Kenya and beyond.

Ruth further disclosed her brother’s final wish. “He told me ODM must remain united, it must be strong. ODM party belongs to all of us, not a few people who think they own the party,” she quoted.

Legacy of Hope and Continuity

As the sun set over Bondo, the air was heavy with both grief and pride. Raila’s burial was not just the end of an era but a call to continue his lifelong mission — unity, justice, and progress.

Winnie’s words hinted at a generational handover — a daughter ready to pick up her father’s political torch while embracing reconciliation. Whether her message was symbolic or strategic, one thing was clear: her voice struck a national chord.
