Gachagua’s Elder Sister Eunice Nyangari Dies at 77 in Naro Moru
Gachagua announced the death in a family statement released on Friday, November 6, saying Eunice died on Thursday, November 5. He did not disclose the cause of her death.
The former Deputy President described the loss as a difficult moment for the family, noting that Eunice was their firstborn sister and an important figure in their lives.
“The family of the late Mzee Nahashon Gachagua Reriani and the late Martha Kirigo Gachagua is mourning following the passing on of our firstborn sister, Eunice Nyangari Gachagua, in Naro Moru yesterday,” he stated.
Her death marks another loss for the Gachagua family, which has previously mourned several close relatives.

Eunice took motherly role after mother’s death
He said the 77-year-old had taken on a motherly role within the family, helping to keep relatives together during a difficult period.
According to Gachagua, her presence offered emotional support and direction to her siblings, making her an important figure in the family.
Her passing has therefore left a significant gap among relatives who depended on her wisdom and counsel.
He further sent his sympathies to members of the wider Reriani family as they come to terms with the loss.
Gachagua remembers sister’s warmth and kindness
While announcing the death, Gachagua reflected on the memories they shared, describing Eunice as a happy and warm person whose presence brought comfort to those around her.
He said the family remained grateful for the 77 years she lived, despite the pain caused by her passing.
“We will deeply miss her wise counsel, warmth and the precious moments we shared. Eunice was a happy and warm soul who lit up our hearts. We pray that her soul may rest in peace and that perpetual light may shine upon her forever,” he said.
The family had not announced funeral arrangements or further details about her burial at the time of publication.
Gachagua has lost several family members
Eunice’s death adds to a series of family losses previously experienced by the former Deputy President.
In June 2024, Gachagua mourned another elder sister, Leah Wangari Muriuki.

He also lost his brother, Nderitu Gachagua, who served as the first Governor of Nyeri County. Nderitu died in February 2017.
The latest announcement has drawn attention to the family’s successive bereavements, with Gachagua remembering Eunice as a sister whose influence extended beyond her immediate household.
