President Ruto Paid Raila’s Air Ticket to India for Treatment, Oburu Reveals
Speaking during the emotional funeral service at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University grounds in Siaya County, Oburu disclosed that President Ruto personally facilitated Raila’s trip to India for medical treatment.
“I want to thank His Excellency the President, who has stood with us right from the moment Raila got unwell,” Oburu stated.
“When Raila was sick, we sat down, all three of us, and agreed that Raila would seek treatment. He is the one who paid for the ticket to see off Raila to India.”
His revelation stunned many mourners, who broke into applause, visibly moved by the President’s humility and empathy.
Ruto’s Support Began Long Before Raila’s Death
“I want to tell you that the President kept a vigil and kept asking how Raila was doing during his treatment,” Oburu narrated.
“The day Raila died, I called him first and informed him of what had happened.”
His words painted a touching picture of rare friendship and unity between two families long separated by political rivalry.
A True Act of Humanity and Statesmanship
The Siaya Senator went on to describe President Ruto’s involvement as a true show of humanity and statesmanship.
“The President organised everything. All these arrangements would have been too heavy for us as a family,” Oburu said.
He further explained that the government handled most of the logistical and financial responsibilities, allowing the Odinga family to grieve with dignity.
A Special Request to President Ruto
Before ending his speech, Oburu made a heartfelt plea to President Ruto on behalf of his late brother’s security team.
“These men guarded my brother faithfully to the very end,” he said emotionally.
“I ask, Mr. President, that you consider promoting them in honour of Raila’s memory.”
The crowd broke into loud applause, moved by the Senator’s sincerity.
Meanwhile, details of Raila’s final moments were shared during the ceremony. The former Prime Minister reportedly collapsed at the Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Eye Hospital and Research Centre and was rushed to a private facility in Koothattukulam, where he was pronounced dead at 9:53 a.m. Indian Time (7:23 a.m. Nairobi Time).
A Legacy of Unity and Compassion
