“She Was Meant to Take Over”—Catholic Nun Held for 14 Days Over Shocking Murder of Sister Karimi
Shock and grief have gripped Meru County after a Catholic nun was detained for 14 days over the suspected murder of fellow nun, Sister Anselimina Karimi. The court ruling, issued on Tuesday, October 14, allows police to intensify investigations into the chilling case that has rocked the religious community.
“She Was Found Dead in Her House”—Timeline of a Tragedy
Sister Karimi, the administrator of Meru Children’s Home in Nkabune, was found dead in her house on Sunday, October 12. She had reportedly been murdered the previous night.

“We believe she was killed elsewhere and her body moved,” said a police investigator. “Preliminary reports suggest head injuries from a blunt object,” he added.
Her death coincided with the suspect’s transfer to the facility, where she was set to replace Sister Karimi.
“She Called for Help”—Suspect’s Actions Under Scrutiny
According to police, the suspect claimed she found Sister Karimi lying unconscious. She then called colleagues to help rush her to Consolata Mission Hospital Nkubu, located 16 kilometers away.
“She called others to assist. But it was too late,” a colleague said. “We were shocked. She was supposed to take over,” another added.
However, investigators are now questioning the suspect’s timeline and movements.
“Her Phone Was Switched Off”—Key Evidence Missing
Forensic reports show Sister Karimi was at her house until 10pm on Saturday. Her phone was switched off around 11pm and has not been recovered.
“We’re analyzing phone data to trace movements and calls,” said a detective. “The suspect’s location during the critical hour is unclear,” he added.
Police believe the phone records could reveal crucial details about the events leading to the murder.

“She’s a Flight Risk”—Court Denies Bail
During the court hearing, the suspect’s lawyer requested bail. However, police opposed the request, citing concerns that she might flee.
“She poses a flight risk. We need time to investigate,” the prosecution argued.
The judge agreed, ordering the nun to remain in custody for 14 days.
“This case requires thorough investigation,” the magistrate ruled.
As the probe deepens, the Catholic community mourns the loss of a beloved servant and demands justice.

“We are heartbroken. Sister Karimi was kind and devoted,” said a parish member.
