KANU’s George Wainaina Arrested in Connection to Lawyer Mbobu’s Murder, Sparks National Outcry
Shock and grief continue to grip the legal fraternity following the brutal murder of city lawyer Kyalo Mbobu. Now, the arrest of George Wainaina, Secretary General of the Kenya African National Union (KANU), has added a new twist to the unfolding investigation.
Wainaina was arrested on Thursday evening, just days after Mbobu was gunned down in a drive-by shooting along Magadi Road on Tuesday, September 9. According to reports, Wainaina was among the last people to meet Mbobu before his death.
“The senior KANU official reportedly had a meal with Mbobu at a city hotel just hours before the lawyer was killed,” a source close to the investigation revealed.

“We do understand that there are investigations that are ongoing into the murder of a fellow advocate, which is really unfortunate. But so far, we have not been informed whether the investigations being done are linked to my client’s arrest,” Wainaina’s lawyer stated.
Following his arrest, Wainaina was taken to Kileleshwa Police Station. However, due to health complications, he was later rushed to hospital. The other two suspects are being held at Kilimani and Capital Hill police stations.
Mbobu’s Final Hours and Autopsy Findings
Mbobu’s final hours were filled with mystery. He reportedly met unknown individuals at a city hotel before heading to another meeting in the CBD. CCTV footage later showed a man dressed in black trailing him as he left his office.
“This was a calculated execution. The level of violence is deeply disturbing,” said a forensic expert familiar with the case.
Legal Community Demands Justice
On Friday, lawyers led by Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo held peaceful protests in Nairobi’s CBD. They demanded swift justice and accountability.

“We will not rest until the killers are brought to book. Mbobu’s death must not be in vain,” Odhiambo declared.
As investigations intensify, Kenyans are watching closely. The arrest of a senior political figure has raised eyebrows and heightened public interest. The nation now waits for answers—and justice.
