Autopsy Confirms Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu Was Shot Eight Times in Brutal Drive-By Killing

Grief and outrage continue to grip the nation following the shocking murder of city lawyer Kyalo Mbobu. On Thursday, September 11, Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor confirmed that Mbobu died from excessive bleeding after being shot eight times.

“We recovered two bullets from his body. The injuries were severe. He bled to death,” Oduor revealed after completing the postmortem.

The revelation has intensified calls for justice. Mbobu was killed on Tuesday, September 9, in a drive-by shooting along Magadi Road. He was heading home through the Galleria Brookside area in Karen when unknown assailants struck.

According to police reports, the lawyer had earlier met with unidentified individuals at a city hotel. He later attended another meeting in the CBD before driving toward Lang’ata Road. The attack occurred during a traffic jam, giving the killers a clear opportunity.

“Preliminary investigations show Mbobu was shot five times in the head,” police stated. They recovered three spent cartridges from his vehicle, though others remain missing.

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) condemned the murder. LSK President Faith Odhiambo described it as a targeted hit.

“This was a brutal and premeditated assassination. It reflects the dangerous climate facing legal professionals,” Odhiambo said.

Mbobu’s family echoed the Society’s concerns. They demanded swift investigations and answers.

“Kyalo was our pillar. His death is a huge blow to our family of 12 siblings,” a family member shared.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen addressed the matter on Thursday. He confirmed that detectives had made progress.

“We have been in touch with the DCI since this thing happened, and I am happy to note that there is some progress. Some persons of interest have been identified,” Murkomen said.

He added that interrogations were ongoing.

“Those persons of interest are being interrogated, and so many others are going to be sought,” he stated.

Murkomen thanked those who had come forward.

“We thank the eyewitnesses who were at the scene and many others who are giving information to the DCI,” he said.

He urged more Kenyans to assist investigators.

“Anyone with information should report to the nearest police station,” Murkomen appealed.
