Shame in the System: Nairobi Water Official Convicted for Using Fake Certificate to Secure Job
A Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company official has been convicted for using a forged academic certificate to gain employment. The shocking revelation has stirred public anger and renewed calls for integrity in public service.
“He Lied to Get the Job”—Court Finds Official Guilty
On September 30, 2025, the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court found the suspect guilty of uttering a false document. He had presented a fake Diploma in Sports Science Management, allegedly from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

“The evidence proved he uttered a false document,” the court ruled. “However, he was acquitted of the forgery charge,” the judgment added.
Chief Magistrate Harrison Barasa presided over the case, which had dragged on since January.
“He Denied Everything”—Suspect Arraigned Earlier in the Year
The suspect was arraigned on January 21, 2025, after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) approved charges. He denied all accusations.
“He pleaded not guilty to both charges,” EACC stated. “But the evidence was overwhelming,” they added.
The court sentenced him on October 2 to pay a fine of Ksh100,000 or serve one year in prison.

“We Will Not Tolerate Fraud”—EACC Welcomes Conviction
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) applauded the ruling. They warned others against using fake credentials to secure public jobs.
“We reaffirm our commitment to safeguarding integrity,” the Commission stated. “Fraudulent individuals will face justice,” they added.
This conviction sends a strong message to those attempting to cheat the system.
“Another Case, Same Company”—Pattern of Fraud Emerges
Just months earlier, another Nairobi Water official was charged with forgery and fraudulent acquisition of public property. She allegedly used a fake certificate to secure multiple roles, including technician and marketing assistant.
“She acquired property worth Ksh7.5 million through fraud,” EACC revealed. “She was charged in August,” they added.
The Milimani Anti-Corruption Court is handling her case as investigations continue.

“Public Trust Is Broken”—Kenyans Demand Accountability
“We can’t trust our institutions anymore,” said a Nairobi resident. “Fake certificates are ruining lives,” another added.
As the dust settles, the public hopes for real reform—not just courtroom drama.
