KNEC to Release 2024 KCSE Certificates This Week as KUCCPS Portal Nears Closing

Exciting news for 2024 KCSE candidates!
The government is set to release this year’s KCSE certificates in the coming week, bringing hope to thousands of students.

CS Ogamba Issues Urgent Call to Principals

Speaking in Kisii on Sunday, April 27, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba stressed the importance of immediate action.

He declared, “Certificates of 2024 KCSE will be out this coming week, so I would like to urge teachers to call students to go for their certificates so that they may be able to have jobs and other things.”

Clearly, Ogamba wants no delays.
He emphasized that students need these certificates urgently to unlock future opportunities.

University Enrollment Window Closing Fast

Additionally, Ogamba warned students and guardians not to miss the KUCCPS enrollment deadline.

With the portal closing on April 30, 2025, urgency is building.

“We are continuing to enroll students who got a C+ and above in the universities, and we set the deadline as April 30. I would like to encourage students who have not applied to apply within this period,” he said.

So far, enrollment stands at 72%, showing significant progress but leaving many still at risk of missing out.

In 2024, a total of 962,512 students sat the KCSE exams, with 246,391 qualifying for university entry.

Crackdown on Withheld Certificates Begins

In a bold move, Ogamba also announced a sweeping crackdown on principals illegally withholding certificates.

He made it clear, “The other day, I issued a directive that teachers holding certificates should release them to all the students, and I gave a deadline, and the deadline has already passed, so from next week, we will be taking action against teachers who are still withholding the certificates.”

This announcement follows growing anger over schools holding certificates ransom over unpaid fees.

Government Promises Tough Action

Backing Ogamba’s tough stance, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura warned of severe consequences for defiant principals.

Mwaura, speaking on April 14, emphasized, “Denying any student access to their academic credentials undermines the very foundation of our education system and compromises the rights of the child. The government will not tolerate this continued impunity, and stern actions will be taken against schools that continue to defy this directive.”

Clearly, the government is serious.
New plans are also in motion to allow students to collect their certificates from sub-county education offices instead of former schools, announced Ogamba earlier on March 17.

New Hopes, New Beginnings

As the certificates are finally released and enrollment deadlines loom, thousands of students now have a second chance.

However, time is running out.
Every student must act swiftly to secure their future.
