Government Announces Driver Jobs: Permanent Posts, Allowances, and Clear Requirements Revealed

Thousands of Kenyans now have a chance to secure stable employment after the Ministry of Public Service announced new driver vacancies. The positions, declared on Tuesday, September 30, offer permanent and pensionable terms with competitive allowances.

“Apply Now”—Ministry Calls for Eligible Drivers Nationwide

Public Service Principal Secretary Jane Imbunya urged qualified Kenyans to apply before October 22, 2025. Applications must be submitted through the Ministry’s official portal.

“We invite eligible candidates to apply for the advertised driver positions,” Imbunya stated. “These roles are permanent and pensionable,” she emphasized.

The drivers will operate government vehicles, conduct routine checks, and maintain work tickets. They must also ensure vehicle safety both on and off the road.

“You Must Meet the Criteria”—Clear Requirements Set for Applicants

To qualify, applicants must have a KCSE mean grade of D plain or equivalent. They must also hold a valid driving license without endorsements.

“Candidates must meet all listed requirements. No shortcuts,” Imbunya warned.

Applicants must have completed a one-week first-aid course at St. John Ambulance, KIHBT, or another recognized institution. Additionally, they must have passed the Suitability Test Grade III and possess at least two years of driving experience.

A police clearance certificate is also mandatory.

“Earn While You Serve”—Attractive Salary and Allowances Offered

Shortlisted drivers will earn between Ksh19,340 and Ksh24,470 monthly. House allowance will vary depending on deployment region.

“Drivers will also receive a commuter allowance of Ksh3,000 monthly,” the Ministry confirmed. “A leave allowance of Ksh4,000 annually will be provided,” they added.

This package aims to attract skilled drivers and ensure fair compensation for public service.

“Follow the Process”—Application Guidelines and Warnings Issued

Applicants must fill out the PSC 2 (Revised 2016) Employment Form available on the Public Service Commission’s website. During interviews, candidates must present original documents.

“It is an offence to present fake certificates or documents,” Imbunya cautioned. “Canvassing in any form will lead to automatic disqualification,” she added.

The Ministry has promised transparency and fairness throughout the recruitment process.

“This Is a Lifeline”—Kenyans Welcome Opportunity Amid Tough Economy

Many job seekers have praised the announcement, calling it a lifeline during tough economic times.

“This is a chance to rebuild our lives,” one applicant said.
