Ruto Appoints Charles Nyachae, Former MP & Ex-PS to Govt Positions
President William Ruto has once again stirred the political waters with a wave of strategic appointments that have placed familiar faces in top government positions.
Through a gazette notice dated July 2, 2025, Ruto re-appointed Charles Nyachae as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya School of Government Council. Nyachae, who was recently shortlisted for the IEBC Chairperson position, will now serve a fresh three-year term.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6(1)(a) of the Kenya School of Government Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, re-appoint Charles Nyachae to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya School of Government Council, for three (3) years,” read the notice.
This move comes barely months after Nyachae’s failed bid for the IEBC top job. Although he was a finalist, the position was awarded to Erastus Ethekon, who was later sworn in as Chairperson.

More Familiar Faces Return
The president didn’t stop with Nyachae. He also appointed former Lafey MP Abdi Mude Ibrahim to chair the Board of Directors at the Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute. Mude will serve a three-year term.
Abdi Mude served as Lafey Member of Parliament from 2017 to 2022. His re-emergence into public service signals a calculated political strategy by the head of state.
Also returning to government is Ali Noor Ismail, the former Cooperatives Principal Secretary. Ruto named him Chair of the Pest Control Products Board for a three-year period.
Ismail has held multiple PS roles since the Jubilee administration — in Labour, Cooperatives, and even briefly in Environment and Forestry between 2018 and 2019.
Court Battles Couldn’t Stop Nyachae
Interestingly, Nyachae’s path has not been smooth. A court petition was filed against his IEBC interview, alleging he was ineligible due to his current role as a state officer.
“The shortlisting violates the Constitution and principles of good governance,” claimed the petitioner, who urged the High Court to block both Nyachae and Joy Midivo from being interviewed.
Despite the legal hurdles, Nyachae’s re-appointment confirms his strong footing in public service.

According to gazette records, Nyachae’s previous term at the Kenya School of Government had expired on July 12, 2025. His swift reappointment ensures continuity and perhaps, political loyalty.
As Kenya watches this unfolding political narrative, one thing is clear — President Ruto is not done reshuffling the deck.
