A Step Towards Dignified Living: President Ruto Launches Boma Yangu Railway City Estate
Nairobi’s Face Set to Change as President Unveils 2,200 New Homes
In a defining moment for urban development, President William Ruto on June 28, 2025, launched the Boma Yangu Railway City Estate Phase 1A. This ambitious project, located in Nairobi, will sit on 42 acres and deliver 2,200 housing units across eight high-rise towers.
The housing mix will include 586 social, 931 affordable, and 744 market-rate homes, marking a major milestone in Kenya’s housing plan.
“Every Kenyan Deserves a Decent Place to Call Home” – President Ruto
During the emotional launch, President Ruto reaffirmed his government’s housing commitment.
“This project is a testament to our determination to address the housing needs of our people,”
said President Ruto.“We believe every Kenyan deserves a decent place to call home, and we are working tirelessly to make that a reality.”
The crowd erupted in applause as the President emphasized inclusivity, affordability, and dignity.

“It’s a Game-Changer for Our City” – Philip Mainga
Kenya Railways Managing Director Philip Mainga spoke passionately about the initiative’s broader impact.
“The integration of rail and housing infrastructure is a game-changer for our city,”
said Mainga.“This project will enhance connectivity, reduce commute times, and improve the overall quality of life for residents.”
“By providing affordable housing options, we can attract and retain talent, boost economic activity, and create a more vibrant and sustainable community.”
His remarks highlighted the project’s dual purpose — housing and economic revival.

More Than Shelter: A Full Community
Beyond homes, the Boma Yangu Railway City Estate will feature schools, hospitals, shopping centers, and playgrounds. Sustainability lies at the heart of its design, with plans for green spaces, energy-efficient buildings, and modern waste systems.
A Bold Step for Kenya’s Urban Future
The housing shortage in Nairobi has long pushed many to slums or costly rentals. Now, this project promises dignified living, especially for low- and middle-income earners.

“We’re not just building houses. We are building futures,”
said a visibly inspired President Ruto.ALSO READ: Ruto Proposes Ksh5 Million Affordable Mortgage for Kenyans Paying Housing Levy
