Protestors Burn County Offices and Law Courts in Kikuyu Town
In videos widely shared on social media, flames engulfed the premises while smoke billowed into the sky. Protesters also targeted tractors and tuk-tuks parked nearby, leaving a trail of destruction.
“They are burning the offices belonging to county governments; they have burnt them all,”
a police officer at the scene said in disbelief.
Chaos Unleashed
The situation quickly escalated. Protesters smashed windows, destroyed furniture, and rummaged through documents in the remaining offices that had escaped the blaze

Panicked police officers scrambled for buckets of soil and water, trying desperately to extinguish the fire. Meanwhile, anti-riot officers moved in, arresting several individuals linked to the destruction.
Nationwide Tension Peaks
Kikuyu wasn’t the only hotspot. In Machakos County, things took a deadlier turn when protesters stormed the Matuu Police Station. According to reports, officers opened fire, killing one and injuring several others.
“Police in Matuu, Machakos, have opened fire on peaceful protesters, leaving one person dead and eight others injured,”
read a statement from the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC).
The commission strongly condemned the force used and demanded accountability.
“The group was demanding justice for Kenyans killed during the 2024 Gen Z protests,”
KHRC explained.
“Seven individuals sustained serious injuries—three are receiving care at a private clinic, while four have been admitted to Matuu Level 4 Hospital.”
Demand for Justice Grows
KHRC called for the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to immediately begin investigations into the shooting.
Citizens across the country are now questioning the line between maintaining order and silencing voices. Protesters say they are tired of injustice, corruption, and unfulfilled promises.
What began as a day to honor those who died in 2024 has now turned into one of the most violent demonstrations in recent memory.

Voices in the Ashes
With the law courts in ruins, government files in ashes, and lives lost, many wonder if anyone is truly listening.
Kenyans are crying out for justice, but the streets are answering back with flames.
